Candice Ensign

I spent years following the breadcrumbs toward purpose. I never expected them to lead me back to myself.

I work with women and leaders who have spent years being capable, useful, strong, and needed, but who, somewhere along the way, stopped hearing themselves. I am not here to tell you who you should become. I am here to ask the questions that help you hear your own voice again.

The work underneath everything

The work is not becoming somebody new.

I think a lot of us spend years becoming the person we learned we needed to be to survive, succeed, belong, and keep everything moving. We become successful. Useful. Dependable. Strong. We learn how to carry people, businesses, families, expectations, and a whole lot of things without ever stopping to ask whether we actually wanted to carry them.

Then one day something cracks. A relationship ends. A business changes. The title disappears. The kids grow up. The body says no. The life that looked fine on paper suddenly does not feel like ours anymore.

I do not think that always means you are lost. Sometimes it means the version of you that learned how to survive has taken you as far as she can.

What I stand for

There are a few things I keep coming back to, no matter what I am writing, teaching, or living through.

01

Worth is not usefulness.

I learned that first from horses the world had stopped seeing. Their value did not disappear when they stopped being profitable, easy, or convenient. Neither does ours.

02

Belonging should not cost you yourself.

I know what it is to shape-shift for belonging. I am much more interested now in what happens when we stop abandoning ourselves just to stay welcome in the room.

03

Your life is still your responsibility.

That does not mean everything that happened to you was your fault. It means your power begins when you stop waiting for somebody else to change before you do.

04

Pay attention to what keeps pulling at you.

The things we fight for, protect, save, build or refuse to walk away from may be breadcrumbs. Sometimes they are trying to tell us something about ourselves.

The story underneath the work

I thought the obsession was horses. Then rescue. Then purpose. I know better now.

I was the little girl who found the old horses, the difficult horses, the horses nobody else wanted. Long before I had language for worth or belonging, I could see something in them other people seemed to miss.

Then I grew up and started rescuing the horses everybody else had decided were no longer worth much. And only much later did I understand why that fight had always felt so personal.

Maybe the things that we fight hardest for are simply breadcrumbs leading us back to the parts of ourselves we stopped fighting for a long time ago.

For years I thought the obsession itself was the horses, then rescue, then stepping into purpose. What I understand now is that the things that pull at us, the things we get a little crazy about, fight for, protect, build, or refuse to walk away from, may be pointing us back to something inside ourselves. For years I could see their worth with absolute certainty while quietly searching for my own. That realization changed the way I understood almost everything that came before it.

What are you willing to become?

Not who you are willing to perform as. Not what new identity you can pile on top of the old one. What are you willing to see, release, reclaim, and finally trust when you stop asking everybody else to tell you who you are?

SoulFire · The deeper work
SoulFire

For the woman who can carry everybody else and cannot remember the last time she asked what she wants.

SoulFire is not about fixing you. It is about getting quiet enough, honest enough and sometimes brave enough to hear yourself again.

We partner with horses, ask hard questions, have honest conversations, and do the kind of work you cannot fake your way through. We look at what you have been carrying, what you built to survive, what you may have traded away to belong, and what keeps trying to get your attention underneath all of it.

Worth without usefulness.
Belonging without self-abandonment.
Desire without apology.
Self-leadership without another performance.

Speaking

For rooms ready for a real conversation.

I do not come to a stage with ten polished tips that people forget by lunch. I tell the truth. I tell the stories that took me years to understand. And I ask the questions that tend to follow people home.

I am not speaking from a finished story. I am speaking from a life I am still willing to examine in public.

Evolution of an Obsession

What the things we keep fighting for can reveal about purpose, worth, and the parts of ourselves we stopped fighting for.

Live Your Crazy

What it takes to stop letting other people’s fear, expectations, and opinions become your future.

Worth Is Not Usefulness

What changes when we stop measuring ourselves by what we produce, fix, carry, achieve, or do for other people.

Lead Yourself First

Why no amount of strategy can compensate for a leader who does not know themselves, trust themselves, or take responsibility for their own choices.

Evolution of an Obsession quote by Candice Ensign
The writing

Evolution of an Obsession is where I follow the breadcrumbs in real time.

I am not writing from the finish line. I am writing from inside the questions. Worth. Belonging. Purpose. Fear. Identity. Leadership. Horses. Relationships. The things we keep trying to fix outside ourselves before we are willing to ask what is happening inside.

How I am wired

I initiate. I investigate.
I learn by living it.

I have spent a lifetime seeing something, moving toward it, testing it in real life, getting a few things spectacularly wrong, learning from all of it, and then telling the truth about what I found.

My best work has never come from repeating somebody else’s formula. It comes from following the thing that will not leave me alone long enough to understand what it is trying to teach me.

That is also why I do not believe in coaching people toward lives I am too afraid to examine in my own. If I am going to ask someone else to tell the truth, I have to be willing to do the same.
